Projector, laptop, Max 8

This project is set in a special environment with a large projection wall and rows of chairs in front of it, creating the pre-pandemic collective experience of movie-watching.

The first stage of the project shows silent films from the early 20th century. As the audience enters the room, they can see the large screen playing silent films, and can hear the rolling sound of a vintage film projector. It creates an illusion of going back into the past.

When the first button is pressed, the project enters the next stage. The clips being projected switch to recent film trailers, however, the visual effects keep the clips in the vintage look with a brown tint monochrome, flickering frames, and drifting position. Funny music that used to accompany silent films is played, showing how the emotion of the image could be changed by different visuals and audio.

After a few seconds, the project automatically enters the third stage. The trailer clips suddenly have colors but are still desaturated and distorted. The original soundtrack of the clips emerges, but with additional loud noises. If the second button is pressed, it switches back to the second stage. The switching back and forth between stages connects today with the past, indicating that we are at an important time in global history. It also creates a nostalgic atmosphere, reminding viewers of the importance of social interactions and collective experiences.
