Instrument (legal)
(2022.9)
This installation is inspired by the legal definition of the word instrument. It takes input first from a text-box, but will not make any sound until the text is printed out and stamped on the execution box. By adding or covering different color stamps, the performer can control the timing, mixing different parts of the musical composition separately.
The input text is saved in TouchDesigner and printed out by a python script. When the printed text is placed on the execution base, Arduino senses the paper and starts the beat in TouchDesigner. A webcam is capturing the color from stamps through the transparent surface of the base. Different colors then trigger different signals that are sent to VCV Rack via OSC to generate the final musical composition.
