This multimedia performance harnesses live-streamed surveillance feeds and artificial intelligence to craft an evolving audiovisual landscape. As the perspective shifts outward, the work becomes increasingly fractured and distorted – a powerful metaphor for the paradoxical nature of digital connectivity, where increased reach often yields diminishing returns in genuine human connection.
The artist operates an imaginary vehicle, taking passengers flying outwards to imagine distant perspectives, and looking back from the orbit. This round-trip ends with a one-way sight – the missing descending ride happens within passengers’ minds – drawing the essential connection between the individual and the universally shared perspective among us.
People celebrate Gregorian New Year at midnight in different timezones, but is there a countdown at the same moment, a common celebration across the times of this world? What if we look upwards, fly away from the Earth and look back? Astronomical events happen in exact moments, regardless of the shadow of Earth casting on itself that we call our time.
This special service of Earthbound Express was in observance of the Perihelion, when the Earth was at the closest point in its orbit around the Sun. From Brooklyn, my point of observation, it was at 8:28:12 on January 4th, 2025. We were 91,405,993 mi, or 147,103,686 km, or around 0.9833 Astronomical Units away from the sun.

The weather forecast seems okay in Bushwick, partly cloudy above our departing platform, but we can expect to take off on time. There will be some turbulence, noise, and sunlight-and-time-differences expected, please hold on tight and ask for help when needed.
